Summer Mountain Travel
July 20, 2010

If you’re anything like me, when you look at your summer calendar you don’t see a lot of blank space. That being said, the only weekend I seem to still have open for these jam-packed summer months is Labor Day weekend. Living in one of the most beautiful locales in the US, and the world for that matter, inspires me to make the most of my extended weekend.

Committed to filling in that last ounce of space on my calendar, I’ve taken some time to look into what’s going on in my neck of the woods as well as around the rest of the country. Summertime in the mountains is an ongoing celebration and Labor Day is no exception. Check out some examples below of what’s happening during the long holiday weekend in many of our remarkable destinations.

  • 6th Annual Wild West Air Fest and Labor Day Weekend Celebration - Steamboat Springs, CO: The Wild West Air Fest features vintage and war bird static aircraft display, classic cars, radio controlled airplane shows, hang gliders, para-gliders, Wings Over the Rockies KidSpace and much more! If you’re a dog lover, be sure to check out the Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge. Also, be sure not to miss the traditional semi-annual downtown sidewalk sale as well as The Rocky Mountain Bull Bash P.B.R. on Sunday!

  • 37th Annual Telluride Film Festival – Telluride, CO: This non-competitive four-day festival will play host to an average of 24 feature length films and 25 shorts. In order to keep things surprising for everyone, nobody knows what’s playing or who’s being honored before the event.

  • 12th Annual Vail Jazz Fest Labor Day Weekend Party – Vail, CO: Whether it's group performances, multi-artist jam sessions or the inspiring Gospel Prayer Meetin', the weekend has a unique spirit that attracts jazz musicians and their fans from all over the globe. Up-and-coming "young lions" play alongside living legends of jazz in an intimate venue, with over twenty-four hours of performances - the audience and musicians truly develop a special connection.

  • 2nd Annual Taos Mountain Music Festival – Taos Ski Valley, NM: Taking place on Sunday, September 5th, this festival will feature world renowned musicians including Gov’t Mule and Yonder Mountain String Band as well as other festivities, great food, children’s games, arts & crafts and more.
